Tansen is an Art-Deco style font set created by Tiansen Wu. The feature of this font set can shortly describe as graceful, stylized, modern and geometric.
There are 4 letters not originally design by myself, which are ‘G, Y, P, S’. The original letters are from a poster I found on the street, and was shown as ‘GYPSY’. The design strategy was to first look for the common characteristics from those four original letters, and then design similar letters that share the same shape, part, angel, or other features (i.e. G is similar to O like P is similar to B). Using this method and then moving on to the less similar letters until finally the whole set was created.
As for this specimen book, I decide to go with the modern and geometric feature of this font set. Letting the letter in and out in the shade and light to create an optical illusion, with the hard edge and soft gradient to achieve a modern feeling, which is also what Art-Deco style font is.
